Stars of Tomorrow, Presented by Palmer's, Sponsored by WROC Channel 8,
recognizes the high school musical in true Tony® Award fashion. The program is dedicated to supporting the process of growth and learning, encouraging commitment, discipline and teamwork and acknowledging excellence. This innovative program made its debut to the Greater Rochester area in 1999, with the main intent of bringing long overdue recognition to the high school musical and its performing arts students. High schools in a 9-county area with fall and spring productions are invited to participate in the program. Schools are divided into four divisions based on population and geographic area, and judges are assigned to specific divisions to score individual schools based on their Dance, Acting and Singing Ensemble, Acting Ensemble, Supporting Actor/Actress, Production Crew, Student Orchestra, Overall Musical Production and Leading Actor/Actress. At the annual Stars of Tomorrow Recognition Ceremony,
participating schools have the opportunity to perform a selection from their musical on stage at the Auditorium Theatre. Awards of recognition are given to schools with the highest scores in each of the adjudicated categories, and students are given a chance to shine.
Stars of Tomorrow,
the jewel of the RBTL's education programs, celebrated its 16th anniversary of recognizing the high school musical this year. The 2014 Stars of Tomorrow Recognition Ceremony
was held on May 8, 2014.
